Editor’s Letter: May

Dear readers,

Another month down already! I hope you had a wonderful May. I’ve especially enjoyed the true return of light nights - blue skies at 9pm?! The dream.

On reflection, this month’s news - outside of huge stories like the heartbreaking school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the Sue Gray report, and the future of fossil fuels and green energy - we’ve spotted a few recurrent themes. There were many stories about women’s issues, trailblazing firsts and signs that views on core issues of our time - like fast fashion - are changing.

Women’s issues:

‘Firsts’

  • We admired Jake Daniels becoming the first professional male footballer to come out publicly as gay in British football for 32 years

  • We watched Ncuti Gatwa announced as the first Black actor to star as The Doctor in Doctor Who

  • And Laverne Cox made history with the first trans Barbie doll

The state of fashion:

Outside of the news, it’s been a busy few weeks at The Know HQ, but we’ve had a great time creating new things for you. We launched our Jobs Board to help you find a career that better suits your needs, whether that's finding purpose, needing more flexibility, or wanting to start off with some solid salary transparency. We also hosted a workshop with leadership coach Joy Poole on imposter syndrome - if you missed it, check out the takeaways and a great journaling exercise here.

For balance, and because we love treats, we ran our first community giveaway for a two-night stay in a gorgeous Kip Hideaways getaway. Don’t worry if you weren’t the lucky winner (we’re not jealous at all…), we’ll have lots more of these to come in future!

And we finally brought you the brand new version of our Friday newsletter (fondly referred to by our team as the Friyay edition). We start off with a roundup of the week just gone, plus bring you weekend treats, a little bit of trivia, new jobs, and, possibly our favourite section - good news from our community. Do you have a happy story to share? We’d love to feature you - just drop us a line at hello@theknowmedia.co with the subject line ‘good news’.

Have a wonderful long weekend! Maybe our summer reading list will aid you…
